A Message from Steve Olian,
BVIM Board Treasurer

An "off-duty" economist, walking down a city street, came across an enthusiastic young man selling apples on the sidewalk.
     "How much are these apples?" asked the economist.
     "45 cents apiece", the seller answered.
     "That's a very low price", said the economist.
     " I know for a fact that you can't buy them for yourself for less than 50 cents each, How do you plan to ever make a profit?"
     "No problem", said the young man. "I'm selling lots of apples and I'll make a profit on the volume!"

That theory pretty well describes the system we use to price our monthly lunches.

We spend $1000 more than we charge for the luncheons. Put another way, our costs are 17% more than our income. This is the case despite the fact that we are blessed to be able to purchase our lunches from Bryan's Fine Foods, in Corte Madera, who generously sells them to us at cost.

The cost of the church facilities where we meet has been increased by an amount that adds more than $1.00 to each meal we serve. In addition, there are also expenses for Whistlestop, and on some occasions, fees for entertainment.

Regretfully, the Board of Directors had to find a way to "break-even", so beginning with the February 2011 luncheon, we must raise the cost to $15/ person. As before, we will waive all or part of the lunch cost for anyone experiencing a financial hardship.

The Board appreciates your understanding and cooperation.

EVENTS

The Lighthouse Changing Vision, Changing Life Class.
Thursday, January 20, 10:45 am -1:00 pm

Another excellent Lighthouse class begins Thursday, January 29 and continues for 10 weeks through March. This class is geared toward those who are experiencing vision loss & provides the basic living skills to live confidently in your home, at work or in the community. Class limited to 10. Free. Lighthouse Cardio Yoga Class
Tuesdays at 10:45 am

This weekly exercise/yoga class offers audio description for persons with vision loss. Free. Call Jeff Carlson at 415 258-8496 or BVIM.

BVIM Art Classes
Thursday, Jan 20 & Thursday, Jan 27, 10:30am to noon.

New BVIM Art Classes meet two consecutive Thursdays, Jan 20 & 27 at the Marin Art & Garden Center. Sign up early - there's a 10-student limit for this class!! 415 459-5066.
